SANKOFA:FROM FABLES TO FREEDOM--AN OVERVIEW

Part One--Life in Africa is available now.

New research has shed light on the beginnings and human dynamics of this story and the accepted common ground shifts for the new generation who has the world at its fingertips. This is not just a story written in black and white, per se, but in the many shades of oppressor and oppressed to the present day.

Anansi and the Birds

Anansi and the Birds is a cautionary tale in knowing and celebrating our own strengths but NOT appropriating strengths of others.

Why the Fishermen Sing?

Adwoa Badoe, our professional story teller, has combined a song to celebrate the day’s fishing catch with a little girl’s life aspirations.  The class is invited to experience the rhythms of chores and sing the song in the language of Guinea.

Conclusion

We've shared with you a sense of what life was like for Africans in West Africa long ago when our story begins. We still have a lot more to tell you about those Africans who came to this part of the world - the Americas, where we live.
